Why the iPad is not a computer

When you use an iPhone, it just works. When you use an iPad, it just works. Slide your finger and boom, there’s your apps. Touch an app and boom, ready to go. Flick through webpages and e-mails. Pinch and zoom your photo library. Launch a movie. Boom. Things work instantly.

Think about it. Would you want to wait half a minute for your home stereo to boot up? Would you expect any hourglass icons when you switch channels on your TV? Or worse, can you imagine your TV crashing? Nobody would put up with that. Yet people put up with these things every day on their home computers.

That’s why the iPad is not a computer. It’s an appliance.
